FAQ
1. What species of duck decoys are available?
Rig’Em Right® Mainline Series Decoys are available in a wide range of puddle duck and diver species, including Mallards, BLACKOUTS™, Green-Winged Teal, Blue-Winged Teal, Black Ducks, Pintail, Wigeon, Redheads, Bluebills, Wood Ducks, Gadwall, Early Season Teal Packs, Mallard x BLACKOUTS™ Combo Packs, and Fully Flocked Mallards.
Whether you’re hunting early-season teal, big-water divers, late-season mallards, or mixed puddle duck spreads, Rig’Em Right offers a realistic decoy option for nearly every waterfowl hunting situation.
2. What makes Rig’Em Right decoys different?
Rig’Em Right decoys are built by duck hunters who understand what matters in the field: realistic profiles, durable materials, dependable paint schemes, ultra-light and functional keel designs.
Every detail is designed with real hunting conditions in mind, from how the decoys ride in current and wind to how they look from above. Our goal is to build decoys that look realistic, move naturally, and hold up through repeated use in marshes, rivers, flooded timber, boats, and big-water hunting conditions.
3. What are BLACKOUTS™ duck decoys?
BLACKOUTS™ are high-contrast, all-black duck decoys designed to increase long-distance visibility in your spread.
Ducks often key in on shape, contrast, and movement from a distance. BLACKOUTS™ help your spread stand out in low light, cloudy conditions, late-season setups, and big-water situations where visibility matters. They are especially effective when mixed into a mallard spread or used as a visibility booster in larger decoy setups.
4. What are Rig’Em Right decoys made of?
Most Rig’Em Right Mainline Series Decoys are made from durable, impact-resistant, ultra-light EVA plastic designed to handle cold weather, transport, and repeated use.
Some decoys, including Redheads, Bluebills, BLACKOUTS™, and Fully Flocked Mallards, are made from durable HDPE plastic. Redheads and Bluebills use HDPE because it provides added rigidity for foam-filled construction. Fully Flocked Mallards use HDPE because flocking adheres best to a solid, more rigid surface for improved long-term durability.
5. Why does keel weight matter in a duck decoy?
Keel weight affects how a decoy sits, rides, and moves on the water.
A properly weighted keel helps keep the decoy upright and stable in wind, chop, current, and moving water. It also allows the decoy to move naturally with subtle wind or water movement. Ducks rarely sit completely still, so natural motion can make your spread look more realistic.
Rig’Em Right decoys are designed with keel balance in mind to help create lifelike movement in ponds, rivers, creeks, sloughs, flooded timber, and open-water hunting situations.
6. How many duck decoys do I need?
A small spread of 6–12 decoys is enough to get started and can be very effective in the right conditions. Smaller spreads are also popular late in the season when birds are pressured and wary.
For general duck hunting, many hunters run 12–36 decoys depending on location, season, and hunting pressure. Bigger water, open marshes, and late-season migration hunts may call for larger spreads to create more visibility and pulling power.
As a general guide, 6–12 decoys work well for small ponds, creeks, early-season hunts, or pressured birds. A 12–24 decoy spread is a versatile everyday setup. A 24–48 decoy spread works well for larger marshes, rivers, or mixed puddle duck setups. For big water, migration days, or high-visibility spreads, 48 or more decoys may be beneficial.
8. Do Rig’Em Right decoys come with anchors and line?
No. Rig’Em Right decoys do not come with anchors and line unless specifically stated on the individual product page.
This allows hunters to rig their decoys based on their preferred hunting style, water depth, and location. Some hunters prefer traditional strap weights, while others prefer Texas rigs, longlines, or custom anchor systems.
For a complete setup, pair your decoys with Rig’Em Right decoy anchors, decoy line, Texas rigs, or a decoy bag based on how and where you hunt.
9. Do Rig’Em Right Mainline Series Decoys self-right?
Rig’Em Right Mainline Series Decoys are designed with weighted keels to help them ride naturally and stay upright in normal hunting conditions.
Most decoys will self-right or settle upright when deployed properly in typical water conditions. However, self-righting can vary depending on species, water depth, current, wind, line setup, anchor style, and how the decoy lands when thrown.
For best results, deploy decoys with enough line for the water depth and avoid tangles that can pull the decoy unnaturally to one side.
10. How long will Rig’Em Right decoys last?
With proper care, Rig’Em Right decoys are built to last for many seasons of waterfowl hunting.
Durable materials, quality paint, and field-tested construction help them stand up to transport, weather, cold temperatures, and repeated use. To extend the life of your decoys, we recommend cleaning them before and after the season and storing them out of direct sunlight, rain, snow, and prolonged exposure to the elements.
For Fully Flocked Mallards, we recommend extra care during transport and storage. A 12-slot decoy bag is preferred to help protect the flocking and reduce rubbing, scuffing, and unnecessary wear going to and from the field.
